Trojans Get Area Victory

Charles Henderson began 5A Area 3 play Friday night at Hogan's Hole with a 4-1 victory over Eufaula. Mitch McLeod earned the win on the mound for the Trojans going all seven innings and striking out nine while scattering four hits. McLeod pitched six consecutive scoreless innings after giving up one run in the first inning.

Jalin Lawson led CHHS at the plate going 2-2 with two stolen bases, an RBI, and a walk. Quay Lawson was 1-2 with a stolen base, RBI, and two runs scored. Chance Shaver added a single and stolen base.

The Trojans are now 1-0 in area play and will travel to Eufaula Saturday for a double header that will begin at noon.

Trojans Split at Hogan's Hole Against #9 Enterprise

A matchup between two top-ten teams in Alabama was split Tuesday night at CHHS with 6A #9 ranked Enterprise defeating 5A #5 ranked Charles Henderson 9-5 in game one and the Trojans winning game two 14-4 in six innings.

In game one Mitch McLeod's third inning solo home run was the only scoring by CHHS until the fifth inning, when McLeod reached on a walk and later scored from third on a wild pitch. In the sixth inning Chance Shaver's two out double sent Michael Fox and K.D. Edenfield home to cut the Wildcat lead to 7-5, which was as close as the Trojans would get.

In game two Junior Harrison Reeves gave CHHS a strong performance on the mound to lead them to the win. Reeves went five innings, allowed four runs, and struck out two. He faced the minimum through the first three innings before surrendering two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Sophomore Jalin Lawson pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief and recorded two strikeouts.

Nathan Barron's two run homerun in the bottom of the first inning got CHHS on the board. The Trojans would finish with four runs in the first on an RBI fielder's choice by Chase Connell and RBI ground out by Dalton Harris. Chance Shaver finished 3-3 with three runs scored, Barron was 3-4 with 4 RBI, three runs, and a stolen base. Quay Lawson was 2-4 with three runs scored and two RBI while Connell finished with two RBI and two runs scored.

Thompson Games Rained Out

Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader against Thompson High School has been cancelled due to rain.

CHHS' Win Streak Snapped at Ten Games

The Trojans of Charles Henderson lost their first game in seventeen days Tuesday at Tuscaloosa County falling 10-4. Chance Shaver received his first loss of the year on the mound allowing four runs in relief.

Mitch McLeod was 3-4 with a run scored and Jalin Lawson was 2-4 with two RBI. Dalton Harris finished 2-4 with an RBI.

The Trojans will play again Tuesday against Enterprise in a doubleheader at home beginning at 4:30.

Lawson's Grand Slam Lifts Trojans to Win

Jalin Lawson's seventh inning, two out grand slam boosted the Trojans from a 7-6 deficit to a 10-7 victory Monday night at Northridge. K.D. Edenfield started the rally with a single, followed two batters later by singles by Nathan Barron and Mitch McLeod. Quay Lawson's walk forced in a run and two batters later Jalin Lawson lifted a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield fence to give CHHS the lead.

Blake Hutchinson was credited with the win working one inning in relief of starter Harrison Reeves, who pitched five innings. Mitch McLeod struck out two in the seventh inning to earn the save.

Offensively K.D. Edenfield was 2-2 with two singles, two walks, four runs scored and a stolen base. Chance Shaver was 1-2 with an RBI, Barron was 2-4 with an RBI, and McLeod was 2-3 with an RBI.

The Trojans are back in action Tuesday at Tuscaloosa County beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Charles Henderson Wins Two at Prattville

The Charles Henderson Trojans improved to 11-2 on the year with wins over Prattville and Stanhope Elmore Saturday at Prattville.

Against Prattville, Mitch McLeod pitched a complete game and struck out seven to earn the win. K.D. Edenfield finished 4-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI. Michael Fox was 1-3 with an RBI and run scored.

In game two against Stanhope Elmore Fox finished 3-3 with an RBI and run scored. The Trojans rallied from down three to tie the game in the fourth inning off a Fox single and RBI groundouts by Edenfield and Chance Shaver. The score remained tied at four until Quay Lawson led off the seventh with a single, was bunted to second by Chase Connell, and driven in by Jalin Lawson. Fox added an RBI single to plate Lawson to give the Trojans their 6-4 margin of victory. Blake Hutchinson was credited with the win on the mound going four innings in relief and striking out four.

CHHS will be back in action Monday at Northridge at 6:00.

Trojans Take Sikes Tournament Title

CHHS won their fifth game in three days to capture the 2010 Terry Sikes Memorial Tournament championship at Troy University. The Trojans defeated Northview 8-2. Blake Hutchinson and Harrison Reeves combined to allow only five hits and no earned runs. K.D. Edenfield led off the game with a triple and was driven in by Chance Shaver in the first inning. Henderson's biggest inning came in the fifth when Shaver led off with a hit by pitch and was followed by singles from Nathan Barron and Mitch McLeod. Quay Lawson and Chase Connell both followed with RBI sacrifice flies to give the Trojans the 8-2 lead they would not relinquish. Jalin Lawson finished 2-3 with a triple, RBI, and run scored.

Earlier on Saturday, the Trojans clinched a spot in the championship game by defeating Butler County Magnet 10-0 in five innings. Chance Shaver picked up his first career win on the mound working all five innings and striking out five. Joel Agnew was 1-2 with a double and two RBI. Jawara White added two singles.

On Friday night, CHHS defeated Northridge 8-2 at Hogan's Hole on the campus of CHHS. Mitch McLeod was dominant on the mound working a complete game and striking out twelve Jaguar hitters. The Trojans scoring began in the second with a single by Jalin Lawson and walk by Michael Fox that led to a two RBI double by K.D. Edenfield. Three runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning would prove to be enough to secure the victory. McLeod finished 3-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored and Qualy Lawson was 1-2 with a double and RBI.

CHHS will be back in action Saturday March 6 at Prattville and will take on Prattville and Stanhope Elmore.

Trojans Take Two at Sikes Memorial Tournament

Charles Henderson got off to a strong start in the 9th annual Terry Sikes Memorial Tournament Thursday with wins over Paul W. Bryant and Tuscaloosa County.

In game 1, the Trojans used a five run second inning to secure an 11-1 victory over Bryant. Harrison Reeves got the start and win on the mound. He went all five innings and struck out five. Every starter for the Trojans either scored a run or drove in a run. Dalton Harris was 2-2 with two doubles and three RBI. Michael Fox added a single and two RBI.

In game 2, CHHS roared out of the gates with a nine run first inning to cruise to a 12-0 victory. Nathan Barron was credited with the shut-out victory on the mound working all five innings and striking out three. The Trojans sent thirteen batters to the plate in the first with hits by Mitch McLeod, Quay Lawson, Harris, Chance Shaver, and Barron.

CHHS will be back in action Friday against Northridge at Frazier Field beginning at 6:00 p.m.

In other opening day action in the Sikes Tournament, Tuscaloosa County topped Eufaula and Northview beat Butler County Magnet. Games resume Friday at 11:00 am at Riddle-Pace Field on the campus of Troy University.

Trojans Dominate Andalusia at Hogan's Hole

Charles Henderson improved to 4-2 on the young season with an 11-0 win over Andalusia Tuesday night. The Trojans erupted for nine runs in the second inning, all with two outs to jump out to an early lead. Blake Hutchinson was credited with the win for the Trojans after working three innings. Quay Lawson finished 3-4 and was only a home run away from the cycle with four RBI. Chance Shaver was 2-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a run.

The Trojans are back in action at Frazier Field Thursday night against Paul W. Bryant and Tuscaloosa County on the opening day of the Terry Sikes Memorial Tournament. The first game will begin at 4:30.

CHHS Splits Double Header at Northview

For the second time in a week, the Trojans took to the road for a double header against a 6A opponent and came out with a split. The Trojans fell in game one 12-6 versus the Cougars of Northview before winning game two 5-3.

In the opener, Mitch McLeod started on the mound for the Trojans and took the loss after 4 1/3 innings of work. Senior Nathan Barron finished 3-4 with a double and run scored while Quay Lawson added two singles and two runs scored.

Barron (2-0) took the mound in game two and turned in a tremendous performance. He went all seven innings and allowed only two earned runs on four hits while striking out ten. The big inning for CHHS came in the first, when the first four batters of the game, K.D. Edenfield, Chance Shaver, Barron, and McLeod, all came around to score as the Trojans batted around. McLeod finished with a double, RBI, and two runs while Sophomore Jalin Lawson was 2-3 with a stolen base.

The Trojans return home to Frazier Field to take on Andalusia Tuesday night at 6:30.

Trojans Win Home Opener Over Luverne

Charles Henderson improved to 2-1 with a 4-3 victory over Luverne Thursday night at Frazier Field. Mitch McLeod's leadoff double in the second inning led to his steal of home later in the inning which accounted for the Trojans' first run. Dalton Harris singled in courtesy runner Gregory Barnett later in the inning. The Trojans added single runs in the third with a Nathan Barron solo home run and the fourth from a leadoff triple off the bat of Quay Lawson and a single by Chase Connell. Connell and Harris both finished 2-3 with an RBI.

Sophomore Michael Fox got his first career win and struck out four. Mitch McLeod pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and was credited with the save.

The Trojans will be back in action Saturday at Northview. The double header will begin at Noon.

Luverne Games Changed

The scheduled doubleheader against Luverne on Thursday February 18 will now be a single game beginning at 4:30.

Trojans Split Opening Day Doubleheader

The Charles Henderson baseball team won the first game of the 2010 season 6-2 against Dothan High School before falling to the Tigers 7-4 in the second game. In the opener, Nathan Barron picked up the win going four innings and striking out four without allowing an earned run. Blake Hutchinson finished the game on the mound going three innings and striking out three to get the save. Offensively Senior Mitch McLeod was 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Quay Lawson hit his first career home run in the top of the first and finished with two runs and an RBI. Junior Harrison Reeves and Sophomores Michael Fox and Jalin Lawson each had two hits.

In the nightcap Reeves got the start and pitched four strong innings despite receiving a no decision. At the plate Barron hit his first career home run in the top of the first inning and fellow Senior Chance Shaver finished 2-4 with a double. Chase Connell finished the game 2-2 and Fox added a triple.

The Trojans will play their home opener Thursday at Frazier Field against Luverne. The doubleheader will begin at 4:30.

Opening Day Doubleheader Postponed

The 2010 season will be delayed one day for the Charles Henderson Trojans as the scheduled season opening games against Prattville and Dothan were cancelled Monday due to rain. The Trojans will open the season on Tuesday February 16 in a doubleheader against Dothan High School in Dothan beginning at 4:00.

MITCH MCLEOD SIGNS WITH CENTRAL ALABAMA

Mitch McLeod signed a baseball scholarship to play for Central Alabama Community College on Wednesday February 3 in a ceremony at Wagoner Hall on the campus of CHHS. McLeod is a pitcher and outfielder for the Trojans. He has spent three years with the varsity team and had an 8-3 record on the mound in the 2009 season. Mitch also batted .343 for the season while striking out only 4 times in 108 at-bats.

2010 Meet the Trojans Banquet

The second annual Meet the Trojans banquet for the 2010 baseball season will be Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 7:30 pm at the Troy Recreation Center. The evening will be an opportunity for the community to meet our Varsity, JV, and Freshman teams. The banquet will consist of a catered dinner, door prizes, and our keynote speaker Coach Ron Polk. Coach Polk is arguably the greatest college baseball coach of all time. Much of his fame came from serving as head coach at Mississippi State University. He is a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame as well as the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He has the most victories in SEC history and the 7th most victories in NCAA history. He has led his teams to the College World Series eight times and has served as coach of the USA national team twice. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to show their support to all three of our teams and get the 2010 baseball season off to a great start.

Team Edenfield Wins the 2009 Trojan Challenge

Senior K.D. Edenfield captained his team to victory in the annual Trojan Challenge. This event takes place at the end of offseason workouts and features each senior as captain of a team that participates in various events. His team finished in first place in the Dizzy Bat, Baseball Test, General Knowledge Test, and 100 Yard Relay events. Edenfield's teammates were Harrison Reeves, Houston Mabrey, and Luke Tate.

Fall Evaluations Scheduled

The Trojan baseball team will hold their Fall evaluations for 9th-12th graders beginning Friday, November 13 and concluding Thursday, November 19. The evaluations will begin each day at 3:30 at CHHS and conclude around 6:00. Evaluations for 7th and 8th graders will be November 16, 17, and 19 beginning at 5:30 each day at CHHS.
