Trojans Close Year with Banquet
The 2011 Charles Henderson baseball season was brought to a close Tuesday night with the annual post-season banquet. The Varsity, JV, and Freshmen teams were honored and some individual awards were given out. On the JV team John Michael Renfroe was voted the Most Improved Player while Hunter Baggett and Luke Hastings were elected as the Teammates of the Year.
For the Varsity, Michael Thomas was voted both the Teammate of the Year and the Most Improved Player. Seniors Harrison Reeves and Chase Connell were elected Team Captains. Michael Fox received the "Don't Move Your Feet" award for being hit by the most pitches. Connell also received the Most Productive Hitter award for the highest percentage of Quality At-Bats.
The four seniors from the class of 2011 were also honored and received a gift from the CHHS baseball program. They were outfielder Tyler Dansby, pitcher and firstbaseman Harrison Reeves, pitcher Blake Hutchinson, and catcher Chase Connell.

Trojans' Season Ends at Russell County
The 13th consecutive playoff appearance for the Charles Henderson Trojans came to an end Friday night at Russell County. In game one Tripp Blackmon took the loss on the mound and struck out one. Houston Mabray finished the game out of the bullpen. Blackmon drove in Michael Fox with a two run homerun in the third inning. In game two Blake Hutchinson pitched well but took the loss. Harrison Reeves relieved Hutchinson on the mound in the fifth inning. Fox was 2-4 with two doubles and and RBI. Jalin Lawson had a homerun, double, and three RBI. Blackmon, Chase Connell, Joey Denison, and Chase Smartt each added hits.

Trojans Split Regular Season Finale
CHHS concluded the regular season Tuesday by going to Andalusia and defeating the Bulldogs 8-5 before falling to Northview 8-7.
Against Andalusia Tripp Blackmon struck out one in earning the win. Houston Mabray got the save and recorded two strike outs. Tyler Dansby led the offensive attack with two hits and four RBI. Chase Smartt was 2-3 while Blackmon and Michael Thomas each were 1-1.

Lawson, Irons Chosen to AHSAA All-Star Game
Junior Jalin Lawson and Head Coach Derek Irons will represent CHHS at the 15th annual AHSAA All-Star Sports Week in Montgomery. The South team will take on the North team in a doubleheader at Riverwalk Stadium on July 11.
Lawson is one of eighteen players chosen for the South roster that includes players from all classifications. He is currently batting .479 for the Trojans and leads the team in doubles (19), home runs (7), runs (51), and stolen bases (14). His career batting average is .432 and he has 12 career homeruns and 78 career RBI. He batted .500 during the 2010 playoffs as a sophomore. He was chosen for the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Underclassman Weekend during the summer of 2010.
Coach Irons was chosen to coach the South squad. Irons is in his third year at CHHS with an 81-33 (71%) overall record and 137-67 (67%) career record. He has guided CHHS to three consecutive playoff appearances, and this season marks 13 straight playoff berths for the Trojans. CHHS has been ranked in every ASWA 5A poll since Irons arrived in Troy and in 2010 they achieved their first ever number one ranking. He was named the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Coach of the Year in the state of Alabama for the 2008 season.

Trojans Sweep Sikes Memorial Weekend
CHHS defeated Slocomb 6-5 and Houston Academy 6-0 in the Terry Sikes Memorial Weekend Saturday. Tripp Blackmon got the win against Slocomb working four innings and striking out two while allowing one earned run. Houston Mabray worked three scoreless innings in relief and struck out two to earn the save. Chase Smartt was 3-3 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored. Chase Connell had a hit and two RBI, Jalin Lawson had a hit and RBI, and Michael Fox doubled.
Prior to game two the 2011 seniors were recognized in Senior Night festivities. Those seniors are Chase Connell, Tyler Dansby, Blake Hutchinson, and Harrison Reeves. Hutchinson stole the show on Senior Night with his complete game shut-out on the mound. He struck out eight. Connell was 2-2 with two RBI while Joey Denison was 2-3 with an RBI and run scored. Michael Fox and Tripp Blackmon each had two hits. Fox drove in two and scored two, Blackmon scored a run.

Trojans Split at Brantley
The Trojans emerged from Spring Break with a split at Brantley Thursday. CHHS dropped game one by a score of 14-13 despite entering the AHSAA record book for the second time this season. In the first inning Tripp Blackmon, Jalin Lawson, Chase Connell, and Gregory Barnette hit consecutive homeruns which was only the second time in AHSAA history that feat has occurred. Connell finished 4-5 with two RBI and Lawson was 2-3 with 2 RBI.
In game two Luke Hastings earned his varsity win on the mound in relief of Brantley LeCroy. Hastings worked 4 1/3 innings and struck out two. Lawson added his second homerun of the day and finished 3-3 in game two with three RBI. Connell also hit his second of the day while Barnette was 3-3 with two doubles.
CHHS returns to action with the Sikes Memorial Weekend this Saturday. The Trojans meet Slocomb at 11 at CHHS and Bibb County at 5 at Troy University. Senior Night festivities will be prior to the 5:00 game at Troy.

Trojans Drop Re-Match of Top Ten Teams
The #6 ranked CHHS Trojans lost a 6-1 decision in Troy Thursday against the #3 ranked Rehobeth Rebels. Tripp Blackmon pitched a complete game but took the loss on the mound. He also drove in the Trojans' only run with a solo blast in the sixth inning. Chase Connell, Dalton Harris, and Tyler Dansby each added hits.

Rehobeth Tops CHHS
In a battle of two teams ranked in the top ten of 5A baseball, the Rehobeth Rebels came out on top with a 13-12 victory over the Trojans. Harrison Reeves started the game and worked 5 1/3 innings and struck out three. Blake Hutchinson took the loss in relief working 2/3 of an inning and striking out one. Senior Tyler Dansby led the offensive attack for the Trojans going 3-4 with 6 RBI including a grand slam in the fifth inning. Chase Connell was 3-4 and Chase Smartt finished 3-3. Gregory Barnette added a two run homerun in the sixth inning.

Lawson Enters AHSAA Record Book
Jalin Lawson's three homerun effort against Eufaula on March 26 has earned him a position in the AHSAA record book for most homeruns in a game. His three homerun game is listed among several others who have hit three round-trippers in one game. Lawson is the first CHHS player to be listed in the AHSAA record book.

Trojans Top Two Teams in Troy
CHHS won a pair of games as part of the Terry Sikes Memorial Weekend of Baseball in Troy on Saturday. In game one the Trojans defeated Chilton County by a score of 11-4 and in game two defeated Wicksburg, the #1 ranked team in 2A, by a score of 19-9. Against Chilton County, Tripp Blackmon got the start and recorded one strike out. He gave way to Houston Mabray who earned the save and struck out three. Chase Connell started the scoring in the first with a two RBI double to put the Trojans on top. Jalin Lawson's two run homerun was the big blow in a three inning fifth for CHHS. The Trojans added single runs in the third and fourth before adding a three run sixth to round out the scoring. Lawson finished 3-4 with 4 RBI and Connell was also 3-4 with two RBI. Gregory Barnette was 2-4 with three RBI.

Trojans Clinch Playoff Berth with Sweep of Carroll
CHHS took two games from Carroll Friday night by scores of 16-6 and 13-3. Blake Hutchinson was the winning pitcher in game one and struck out five. Chase Connell was 2-4 with four RBI and Joey Denison was 3-3 with four RBI. Chase Smartt added two singles and a homerun.
In game two Tripp Blackmon earned the win and struck out two. At the plate Blackmon was 2-3 with two RBI and Jalin Lawson was 4-4 with 4 RBI. Smartt also contributed two hits.
The two wins increased the Trojans area record to 3-1 which was good enough to clinch a playoff berth. The two game series against Rehobeth will determine the area champion.

CHHS Defeats Carroll
Harrison Reeves' complete game effort on the mound led the Trojans to a 9-4 victory over area foe Carroll. Reeves was credited with his fourth win of the season and second in area play by striking out one and allowing three earned. After allowing one run in the first, the Trojans struck for three runs in the third. Tripp Blackmon hit a triple and was driven in by Jalin Lawson. Later in the inning Joey Denison drove in courtesy runner Michael Thomas, then Denison scored on a wild pitch. The score remained 3-1 until the fifth when the CHHS bats erupted for five runs. Gregory Barnette's two run double and Michael Fox's two RBI single were the big hits in the inning. Blackmon added an insurance run in the seventh by driving in Fox with a single.

CHHS Wins Two on the Road
The Charles Henderson Trojans, currently ranked #7 in 5A in the state of Alabama, defeated Montgomery Catholic and Dallas County in Dallas County Friday night. In game one the Trojans took down Montgomery Catholic by a final of 18-0. Winning pitcher Blake Hutchinson went the distance striking out eight. At the plate Chase Connell was 4-4 and drove in three. Gregory Barnette was 2-3 with two RBI while Chase Smartt finished a homerun shy of the cycle and drove in three. Tyler Dansby finished a perfect 2-2 with two RBI.

Trojans Split Doubleheader
The Trojans continued play in the Southeast Alabama Invitational on Tuesday and split a doubleheader with Houston County and host team G.W. Long. In the opener against Houston County the Trojans won by a 21-1 margin. Austin Adler and Tripp Blackmon each his their first career homeruns and Tyler Dansby was 2-2 with two RBI. Brantley LeCroy got the win on the mound striking out three and surrendering only one hit.
In game two G.W. Long defeated the Trojans 5-3. Harrison Reeves took the loss despite striking out eight over six innings. Jalin Lawson was 2-3 with a run scored. Slocomb Defeats CHHS
The Trojans dropped a 5-1 decision to Slocomb Monday night in the opening day of the Southeast Alabama Invitational Tournament in Skipperville. Auburn signee Clay Holmes struck out eleven CHHS batters in his winning effort. Tripp Blackmon took the loss working 4 2/3 and allowed four earned runs. Michael Fox relieved Blackmon in the 5th and did not allow a hit while striking out two. Joey Denison drove in the Trojan run and Michael Fox added a single and stolen base. Jalin Lawson stole a base and scored a run.

Thompson High School in Birmingham swept CHHS in a doubleheader Saturday by scores of 5-1 and 5-0. In the opener Houston Mabray went 6 innings and struck out five while taking the loss.
