Trojans Split Doubleheader

CHHS traveled to Millbrook Saturday and split a doubleheader with Hillcrest and Stanhope-Elmore. In the opener Hillcrest defeated the Trojans by a score of 11-7. Harrison Reeves took his first loss on the season on the mound. Offensively Chase Smartt finished 3-3 with an RBI and Chase Connell had a single and two RBI. Tripp Blackmon and Dalton Harris both added a hit and RBI.

The Trojans bounced back in game two to defeat Stanhope-Elmore 12-6. Blake Hutchinson earned his second victory of the season on the mound working four innings and striking out three. Houston Mabray pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit. Connell was 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. Blackmon and Michael Fox both had two hits and an RBI. Smartt was 2-3 with a run scored and Joey Denison hit his first homerun of the season. Jalin Lawson finished with two doubles, three RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored.

CHHS is now 4-1 on the year and will resume play Friday in the FCA Tournament in Montgomery.

Late Inning Rally Leads to CHHS Road Win

The Trojans won their first road game of the season in dramatic fashion by scoring three runs in the seventh inning to defeat Enterprise 5-4. The Trojans entered the seventh trailing 4-2 when Tyler Dansby led off with a hit by pitch and was followed by a Gregory Barnette single. Tripp Blackmon reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Dansby scored from third on a wild pitch and Jalin Lawson reached on a walk. Chase Connell tied the game with an RBI single and Joey Denison scored Blackmon on a sacrifice fly to centerfield to give CHHS the winning 5-4 margin. Connell finished 3-4 with a double and two RBI while Chase Smartt had two hits and an RBI.

The pitching of Tripp Blackmon and Michael Fox kept the Trojans within striking distance for the late inning comeback. Fox was credited with the win working three innings of relief and allowing only one hit and no earned runs. He struck out five. Blackmon went four innings and struckout three while allowing no earned runs.

CHHS hits the road again Saturday for a doubleheader against Hillcrest and Stanhope-Elmore at Stanhope-Elmore beginning at 1:00.

Trojans Sweep Opening Day Twin Bill

The 2011 Trojans opened the season with a sweep of Dothan and Greenville Monday at Hogan's Hole on the campus of Charles Henderson High School. In game one CHHS defeated Dothan 6-2. Harrison Reeves worked a complete game on the mound allowing five hits and no earned runs. The Trojans' big inning came in the third when Jalin Lawson's two run home run drove in Gregory Barnette who reached on an error. Chase Connell followed with a double and was driven in by Michael Fox's double. Lawson would add two more RBI in the fourth on a single and Tyler Dansby tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI double.

In game two the Trojans exploded for 22 runs to defeat Greenville by a final count of 22-4. Gregory Barnette hit a grand slam and added two doubles to finish 3-3. Chase Connell was 2-3 with two doubles and Chase Smartt was a perfect 4-4 with three RBI. Brantley LeCroy also drove in two runs. On the mound Blake Hutchinson got the start and worked three innings and struck out six. Houston Mabray finished the final two innings striking out three.

CHHS returns to action Thursday on the road at Enterprise.
