Trojans Top Trinity

The Charles Henderson Trojans improved to 21-5 on the season Tuesday night with a 7-2 victory over 3A #9 ranked Trinity. Harrison Reeves was credited with the win after working the third and fourth innings and striking out one. Blake Hutchinson received the save after working the final three innings and striking out five. Nathan Barron started the game on the mound and faced the minimum through two innings, striking out one.

Mitch McLeod led CHHS at the plate going 3-4 with three RBI and two stolen bases, including a straight steal of home plate. Chase Connell was 2-3 with an RBI and Harrison Reeves was 2-3 with two RBI. CHHS scored two in the third inning on a two run double off the bat of McLeod that scored K.D. Edenfield and Chance Shaver. The big inning for the Trojans came in the fifth inning when Connell singled in Barron. Following McLeod's steal of home, Reeves singled to chase home courtesy runner Gregory Barnette and Jalin Lawson. McLeod added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single that drove home Shaver.

The Trojans return to area 3 play Thursday night at home against Carroll. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00.

Trojans Fall in Tournament Semi-Final

Charles Henderson's eight game win streak was snapped Saturday in the semi-finals of the Southeast Alabama Invitational, dropping a 6-4 decision to Rehobeth. The defeat dropped the Trojans to 20-5 on the season.

Mitch McLeod worked all six innings on the mound striking out six. He received the loss. McLeod also led the way offensively with a two-run blast to centerfield scoring Nathan Barron in the top of the first inning. K.D. Edenfield, Barron, Jalin Lawson, and Michael Fox also added hits for CHHS.

The Trojans will return to Hogan's Hole after being on the road for two weeks on Tuesday as they take on Trinity at 5:00.

7th Inning Rally Lifts Trojans to Win

Charles Henderson used a seventh inning rally to defeat 3A's 5th ranked team in the state, the Slocomb Red Tops. The win kept the Trojans undefeated in the Southeast Alabama Invitational and advanced them to a semi-final match-up against Rehobeth Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at G.W. Long High School.

The bottom of the seventh began with the Trojans trailing 3-1. K.D. Edenfield led off with a single down the left field line and was driven home by the next hitter, Chance Shaver. Nathan Barron followed Shaver with a double that tied the score at 3-3. Mitch McLeod was intentionally walked, and Quay Lawson followed with a fielders choice that moved Barron to third base. Following an intentional walk to Chase Connell, Jalin Lawson hit an infield single that scored Barron from third and secured the victory for CHHS. McLeod finished the game 2-3, as did Jalin Lawson.

Blake Hutchinson started the game on the mound for the Trojans but did not factor into the decision. He worked a strong six innings, striking out eight and keeping CHHS in the game. Reliever Harrison Reeves was called on to work the seventh inning and was credited with the win after working one inning and striking out one.

Edenfield, Barron, and Lawson Power Trojans to Victory

Seniors K.D. Edenfield, Nathan Barron, and Quay Lawson each hit solo home runs as the Charles Henderson Trojans rounded out pool play in the Southeast Alabama Invitational with a 10-5 victory over Houston Academy. The Raiders are currently ranked 7th in class 2A. Edenfield finished the day 2-5 with an RBI, Barron was 3-5 with three RBI, and Lawson was 3-5 with an RBI. Chance Shaver also contributed two hits and three RBI.

On the mound Jalin Lawson was credited with the win after working three innings and striking out two. Harrison Reeves pitched the fourth and fifth innings then gave way to K.D. Edenfield who pitched the final two innings.

As champions of the Wicksburg pool, the Trojans will advance to play the #5 ranked team in 3A, Slocomb. First pitch is scheduled for Friday night at 7:00 at Wicksburg High School.

ASWA Rankings: March 25

The Trojans of Charles Henderson are ranked #3 in 5A according to the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll released on March 25. CHHS moved up two spots after being ranked #5 in the prior polls. The Trojans baseball program has been ranked in the top ten every week since the initial poll of the 2007 season.

Southside-Gadsden remains the top ranked team in the state followed by St. Paul's and the Trojans. Following the Trojans are Beauregard at #4, Spanish Fort at #5, Boaz at #6, and Cullman at #7. East Limestone, Muscle Shoals, and Briarwood Christian are 8th, 9th, and 10th respectively.

McLeod's No-Hitter Caps Trojan Sweep

Mitch McLeod improved his record to 4-1 with a complete game no-hitter over 3A #10 ranked Wicksburg Tuesday night in the Southeast Alabama Invitational Tournament. McLeod worked all five inning in the 10-0 win striking out five. K.D. Edenfield made the defensive play of the game tracking down a deep fly ball in left-center field to end the fourth inning and keep the no hitter in tact.

McLeod finished 2-4 at the plate with an RBI and run scored while Chance Shaver was 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Nathan Barron was 1-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

In the opening game on Tuesday CHHS defeated Geneva County 9-1. In that game Sophomore Michael Fox earned the win working four innings and striking out two before giving way to Edenfield who worked the final three innings for the save. At the plate Quay Lawson was 3-4 with two RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Chase Connell was a perfect 3-3 with two RBI and Shaver was 1-2 with an RBI and run.

The Trojans continue pool play in the tournament Thursday against Houston Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 at Wicksburg High School.

CHHS Sweeps Eufaula

The Trojans of Charles Henderson improved to 16-4 on the year by defeating the Eufaula Tigers on the road Saturday afternoon winning the opener 12-6 and the second game 13-2.

The opening game, which counted towards the area standings, was won by Nathan Barron who went 4 2/3 innings and struck out two. Blake Hutchinson earned the save by working 2 1/3 innings and striking out two without allowing a run. Chance Shaver was 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while Mitch McLeod was 1-3 with two runs and an RBI. Chase Connell finished 2-5 with three RBI and Jalin Lawson was 2-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

In game two Harrison Reeves pitched all five innings and struck out three while allowing two runs. Shaver was perfect at the plate, going 4-4 with four runs and two RBI. Barron was 3-4 with three RBI and two runs, McLeod was 2-2 with an RBI and two runs, and Quay Lawson was 2-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

Charles Henderson currently leads area 3 with a 2-0 record followed by Carroll (1-1), Rehobeth (1-1), and Eufaula (0-2).

CHHS will be back in action Tuesday in the Southeast Alabama Invitational Tournament at Wicksburg.

Trojans Get Area Victory

Charles Henderson began 5A Area 3 play Friday night at Hogan's Hole with a 4-1 victory over Eufaula. Mitch McLeod earned the win on the mound for the Trojans going all seven innings and striking out nine while scattering four hits. McLeod pitched six consecutive scoreless innings after giving up one run in the first inning.

Jalin Lawson led CHHS at the plate going 2-2 with two stolen bases, an RBI, and a walk. Quay Lawson was 1-2 with a stolen base, RBI, and two runs scored. Chance Shaver added a single and stolen base.

The Trojans are now 1-0 in area play and will travel to Eufaula Saturday for a double header that will begin at noon.

Trojans Split at Hogan's Hole Against #9 Enterprise

A matchup between two top-ten teams in Alabama was split Tuesday night at CHHS with 6A #9 ranked Enterprise defeating 5A #5 ranked Charles Henderson 9-5 in game one and the Trojans winning game two 14-4 in six innings.

In game one Mitch McLeod's third inning solo home run was the only scoring by CHHS until the fifth inning, when McLeod reached on a walk and later scored from third on a wild pitch. In the sixth inning Chance Shaver's two out double sent Michael Fox and K.D. Edenfield home to cut the Wildcat lead to 7-5, which was as close as the Trojans would get.

In game two Junior Harrison Reeves gave CHHS a strong performance on the mound to lead them to the win. Reeves went five innings, allowed four runs, and struck out two. He faced the minimum through the first three innings before surrendering two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Sophomore Jalin Lawson pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief and recorded two strikeouts.

Nathan Barron's two run homerun in the bottom of the first inning got CHHS on the board. The Trojans would finish with four runs in the first on an RBI fielder's choice by Chase Connell and RBI ground out by Dalton Harris. Chance Shaver finished 3-3 with three runs scored, Barron was 3-4 with 4 RBI, three runs, and a stolen base. Quay Lawson was 2-4 with three runs scored and two RBI while Connell finished with two RBI and two runs scored.

Charles Henderson begins area play Friday night at home against Eufaula at 7:00.

Thompson Games Rained Out

Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader against Thompson High School has been cancelled due to rain.

CHHS' Win Streak Snapped at Ten Games

The Trojans of Charles Henderson lost their first game in seventeen days Tuesday at Tuscaloosa County falling 10-4. Chance Shaver received his first loss of the year on the mound allowing four runs in relief.

Mitch McLeod was 3-4 with a run scored and Jalin Lawson was 2-4 with two RBI. Dalton Harris finished 2-4 with an RBI.

The Trojans will play again Tuesday against Enterprise in a doubleheader at home beginning at 4:30.

Lawson's Grand Slam Lifts Trojans to Win

Jalin Lawson's seventh inning, two out grand slam boosted the Trojans from a 7-6 deficit to a 10-7 victory Monday night at Northridge. K.D. Edenfield started the rally with a single, followed two batters later by singles by Nathan Barron and Mitch McLeod. Quay Lawson's walk forced in a run and two batters later Jalin Lawson lifted a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield fence to give CHHS the lead.

Blake Hutchinson was credited with the win working one inning in relief of starter Harrison Reeves, who pitched five innings. Mitch McLeod struck out two in the seventh inning to earn the save.

Offensively K.D. Edenfield was 2-2 with two singles, two walks, four runs scored and a stolen base. Chance Shaver was 1-2 with an RBI, Barron was 2-4 with an RBI, and McLeod was 2-3 with an RBI.

The Trojans are back in action Tuesday at Tuscaloosa County beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Charles Henderson Wins Two at Prattville

The Charles Henderson Trojans improved to 11-2 on the year with wins over Prattville and Stanhope Elmore Saturday at Prattville.

Against Prattville, Mitch McLeod pitched a complete game and struck out seven to earn the win. K.D. Edenfield finished 4-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI. Michael Fox was 1-3 with an RBI and run scored.

In game two against Stanhope Elmore Fox finished 3-3 with an RBI and run scored. The Trojans rallied from down three to tie the game in the fourth inning off a Fox single and RBI groundouts by Edenfield and Chance Shaver. The score remained tied at four until Quay Lawson led off the seventh with a single, was bunted to second by Chase Connell, and driven in by Jalin Lawson. Fox added an RBI single to plate Lawson to give the Trojans their 6-4 margin of victory. Blake Hutchinson was credited with the win on the mound going four innings in relief and striking out four.

CHHS will be back in action Monday at Northridge at 6:00.

Trojans Take Sikes Tournament Title

CHHS won their fifth game in three days to capture the 2010 Terry Sikes Memorial Tournament championship at Troy University. The Trojans defeated Northview 8-2. Blake Hutchinson and Harrison Reeves combined to allow only five hits and no earned runs. K.D. Edenfield led off the game with a triple and was driven in by Chance Shaver in the first inning. Henderson's biggest inning came in the fifth when Shaver led off with a hit by pitch and was followed by singles from Nathan Barron and Mitch McLeod. Quay Lawson and Chase Connell both followed with RBI sacrifice flies to give the Trojans the 8-2 lead they would not relinquish. Jalin Lawson finished 2-3 with a triple, RBI, and run scored.

Earlier on Saturday, the Trojans clinched a spot in the championship game by defeating Butler County Magnet 10-0 in five innings. Chance Shaver picked up his first career win on the mound working all five innings and striking out five. Joel Agnew was 1-2 with a double and two RBI. Jawara White added two singles.

On Friday night, CHHS defeated Northridge 8-2 at Hogan's Hole on the campus of CHHS. Mitch McLeod was dominant on the mound working a complete game and striking out twelve Jaguar hitters. The Trojans scoring began in the second with a single by Jalin Lawson and walk by Michael Fox that led to a two RBI double by K.D. Edenfield. Three runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning would prove to be enough to secure the victory. McLeod finished 3-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored and Qualy Lawson was 1-2 with a double and RBI.

CHHS will be back in action Saturday March 6 at Prattville and will take on Prattville and Stanhope Elmore.
