CHHS Advances to 5A Semi-Finals with Sweep of Beauregard

For the third consecutive week the Trojans of Charles Henderson earned a playoff sweep, this time on the road over #10 ranked Beauregard. The 15-10 and 11-9 victories will send CHHS to the semi-finals against Spanish Fort.

In game one the Trojans outslugged the Hornets for the 15-10 victory. CHHS struck quickly with five runs in the first inning. Chance Shaver hit a one out single and Nathan Barron followed by reaching on an error. Mitch McLeod drew a walk and Quay Lawson followed with a ground ball that the third baseman threw errantly allowing all three runners to score. Chase Connell then drove in Lawson with a ground out to shortstop which led to Jalin Lawson's two out solo home run. CHHS did not score in the second or third innings, but put four runs on the board in the third. Jalin Lawson led off with a single. Dalton Harris and Michael Fox each followed with bunt singles. K.D. Edenfield reached on a fielders choice and Lawson was retired at the plate, but Shaver followed with a bases loaded walk and Barron drove in Fox and Edenfield with a double. Shaver would later score from third on a wild pitch. Harris and Fox again set the table in the fifth with back-to-back hit by pitches which let to another bases loaded walk by Shaver. In the sixth Jalin Lawson and Harris each had RBIs, Lawson's was a double and Harris' a single. The Trojans extended their 12-10 lead in the top of the seventh by scoring three runs. McLeod and Connell each drove in runs in the inning.

Every Trojan starter had either a hit or an RBI. Jalin Lawson finished 3-4 with two RBI and a solo home run. Harris, Connell, and Barron each has two hits. McLeod got the win on the mound working 5 2/3 innings and struck out five. Harrison Reeves came on in the sixth to get out of a jam and then worked a perfect seventh inning for the save.

In game two the Hornets jumped out to a 5-0 lead and would extend it to a 7-1 lead before the Trojans erupted for ten runs in the third inning. The first three hitters of the inning reached base and were followed with a two RBI single by Jalin Lawson. Fox walked to load the bases again and K.D. Edenfield drove in two with a single. Shaver singled which led to Barron's RBI single and overthrow that scored two runs. Quay Lawson reached on a throwing error by the shortstop that allowed Barron to score, then Connell added the exclamation point to the inning with a two run home run. In all the inning featured six hits and three walks by the CHHS hitters.

Nathan Barron started on the mound and worked three innings. Blake Hutchinson followed with 2 2/3 innings of relief before giving way to Harrison Reeves. Reeves arrived at the mound with an 11-9 lead and the bases loaded with two outs. He coaxed a ground ball to the first baseman Dalton Harris who fielded and stepped on the bag for the third out. After allowing a leadoff single in the seventh Reeves got three straight ground ball outs to complete the sweep.

CHHS will be on the road next week at Spanish Fort for the semi-final round of the 5A state playoffs.
