Reeves Lifts Trojans to Area Win

Senior Harrison Reeves' complete game, five strikeout performance on the mound led the way as the number seven-ranked Trojans defeated Eufaula 10-8 in eight innings in the 5A, Area 3 opener. He allowed only two earned runs while walking one. At the plate Tripp Blackmon, Chase Connell, and Joey Denison all collected three hits each.

CHHS got on the board in the first when Connell's single drove in Blackmon and Jalin Lawson. Courtesy runner Michael Thomas stole home as part of a double steal attempt to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead after the top of the first. After Eufaula answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, Michael Fox lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Tyler Dansby to increase the lead to 4-2. In the fourth inning Blackmon drove in Dansby and Fox with a single to push the lead to 6-2. CHHS would not score again until the eighth inning. A leadoff walk by Fox was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Blackmon. Then Lawson, Connell, Gregory Barnette, and Denison each followed with RBI hits to bring the margin to 10-6. After allowing two runs in the bottom of the eighth Reeves induced a line drive to the shortstop Lawson to finish the game.

Area play continues Saturday as Eufaula travels to Troy for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
