Trojans Defeat Brantley

CHHS defeated the top ranked team in 1A, Brantley, on the road Tuesday night. Luke Hastings got the start on the mound and worked 3 1/3 innings and struck out one before giving way to Austin Ingram. Ingram, in his first varsity appearance on the mound, was credited with the win after working 2 2/3 and striking out two. Jalin Lawson worked a scoreless 7th inning to close out the game.

The Trojans struck early with two runs in the top of the first. Gregory Barnette started the game with a double and Michael Fox followed with a single. Lawson doubled to drive in Barnette and Joey Denison's sac fly scored Fox from third. CHHS added two in the fifth with a sac fly from Tripp Blackmon to score Denison and an RBI double from Hastings to score courtesy runner Michael Thomas. Lawson's three run homerun gave the Trojans the lead in the sixth, but after surrendering three runs in the bottom of the sixth the Trojans trailed 8-7 entering the top of the 7th. CHHS struck for five runs in the 7th, beginning when Austin Adler was hit by a pitch. Gregory Barnette and Michael Fox followed with sacrifice bunt attempts that were mis-handled by Brantley. After a walk to Lawson, Denison drove in two with a single and Hastings followed later in the inning with a RBI single.

Barnette finished 3-4 with a double, Lawson was 2-3 with a double, homerun, and four RBI, and Denison was 2-4 with three RBI. Chase Smartt and Hastings added two hits each.
