Charles Henderson Sweeps Tallassee in First Round

Charles Henderson advanced to the second round of the AHSAA playoffs Friday night with a doubleheader sweep of Tallassee at Hogan's Hole. The Trojans won game one by a score of 3-2 in 8 innings when Tripp Blackmon's single to right field scored Joey Denison from second base. Houston Mabray pitched all eight innings for CHHS and struck out two while only allowing four hits. The Trojans struck first in the second inning when Austin Adler's RBI double plated Blackmon. Tallassee knotted the game at 1 in the 4th inning, but the Trojans regained the lead in the fifth inning when Denison's sacrifice fly to centerfield scored Michael Fox from third base. A Tiger run in the sixth made the score 2-2, and it remained until Blackmon's walk-off single in the eighth.

In game two the Trojans again relied on a late-inning rally to secure the win. The Trojans were the visitors in game two. The game was scoreless until the seventh inning, when Denison led off with a walk and moved to second on Chase Smartt's bunt for a base hit. Blackmon followed with a single, loading the bases for Luke Hastings. With Denison on third, Hastings executed a squeeze bunt to score the game's first run and give CHHS a 1-0 lead. A wild pitch scored courtesy runner Morgan Shaver from third base and Austin Adler's RBI groundout pushed across courtesy runner Hunter Baggett to make the score 3-0. Blackmon pitched a complete game on the mound, striking out four on four hits.

The Trojans will host top-ranked Russell County in the second round. Russell County swept Rehobeth Friday night to advance.
