Trojans Sweep Opening Day Doubleheader

The Charles Henderson Trojans started the 2014 campaign off with a bang by defeating Elba 13-4 and Dothan 7-0. In game one against Elba senior Blake Craft went five innings on the mound and struck out eleven. Cole Wilson pitched the final two frames and struck out five. Hunter Baggett drove in the first run of the season on an RBI single that plated Reiley Fox from third after his triple. A five run 4th inning that began with a triple off the bat of Xavius Burden stretched the lead to 6-2. The Trojans would tack on two runs in the 5th, one in the 6th, and five in the 7th to put the game away. Baggett finished with two hits as did Fox and Wilson. Austin Ingram and Chase Smartt both added run-scoring doubles.

In game two senior John Michael Stephens went the distance on the mound and struck out six. He did not allow a runner past second base. Ingram got the Trojans on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two run blast to straight-away centerfield. CHHS would not strike again until the 5th inning when Nick Lewis led the inning off with a single. After a sacrifice bunt from Jason Fleming, Fox drove in Lewis with a single. A triple from John Johnson drove in Fox and Smartt followed with his second double of the day to score Johnson. Johnson's sac fly to centerfield in the 7th to score Lewis from third base closed out the scoring for the Trojans.

Charles Henderson returns to the field Thursday for their home opener against Slocomb at 4:30.
