CHHS traveled to Millbrook Saturday and split a doubleheader with Hillcrest and Stanhope-Elmore. In the opener Hillcrest defeated the Trojans by a score of 11-7. Harrison Reeves took his first loss on the season on the mound. Offensively Chase Smartt finished 3-3 with an RBI and Chase Connell had a single and two RBI. Tripp Blackmon and Dalton Harris both added a hit and RBI.
The Trojans bounced back in game two to defeat Stanhope-Elmore 12-6. Blake Hutchinson earned his second victory of the season on the mound working four innings and striking out three. Houston Mabray pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit. Connell was 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. Blackmon and Michael Fox both had two hits and an RBI. Smartt was 2-3 with a run scored and Joey Denison hit his first homerun of the season. Jalin Lawson finished with two doubles, three RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored.
CHHS is now 4-1 on the year and will resume play Friday in the FCA Tournament in Montgomery.

Late Inning Rally Leads to CHHS Road Win
The Trojans won their first road game of the season in dramatic fashion by scoring three runs in the seventh inning to defeat Enterprise 5-4. The Trojans entered the seventh trailing 4-2 when Tyler Dansby led off with a hit by pitch and was followed by a Gregory Barnette single. Tripp Blackmon reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Dansby scored from third on a wild pitch and Jalin Lawson reached on a walk. Chase Connell tied the game with an RBI single and Joey Denison scored Blackmon on a sacrifice fly to centerfield to give CHHS the winning 5-4 margin. Connell finished 3-4 with a double and two RBI while Chase Smartt had two hits and an RBI.

Trojans Sweep Opening Day Twin Bill
The 2011 Trojans opened the season with a sweep of Dothan and Greenville Monday at Hogan's Hole on the campus of Charles Henderson High School. In game one CHHS defeated Dothan 6-2. Harrison Reeves worked a complete game on the mound allowing five hits and no earned runs. The Trojans' big inning came in the third when Jalin Lawson's two run home run drove in Gregory Barnette who reached on an error. Chase Connell followed with a double and was driven in by Michael Fox's double. Lawson would add two more RBI in the fourth on a single and Tyler Dansby tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI double.
In game two the Trojans exploded for 22 runs to defeat Greenville by a final count of 22-4. Gregory Barnette hit a grand slam and added two doubles to finish 3-3. Connell Signs Scholarship to Wallace State
Senior catcher Chase Connell signed his scholarship to play baseball at Wallace State Community College today in Wagoner Hall on the campus of Charles Henderson High School. During the 2010 season Connell led the team with 40 RBI and 12 doubles. Connell helped the 2010 team advance to the 5A semi-finals by leading the team with 12 RBI, 3 homeruns, and 3 doubles during the playoffs.

Meet the Trojans
The third annual Meet the Trojans event will be held on Friday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Troy Recreation Center. This year's keynote speaker will be Q.V. Lowe, the head baseball coach at Auburn University-Montgomery. Tickets for the evening are $15 for adults and $10 for children and include dinner and doorprizes. Tickets can be purchased from any CHHS baseball player, by calling 566-3510, or at the door the night of the event.

Team Dansby Wins the 2010 Trojan Challenge
The Charles Henderson baseball program completed Fall workouts with the annual Trojan Challenge. The 2010 seniors were the captains and chose their teams to compete in various events throughout the week. The 2010 champions were captained by senior outfielder Tyler Dansby and included Jalin Lawson, Taylor Lord, Blake Craft, Dalton Harris, Jeffrey Parker, and Zach Minor. Team Dansby finished in first place in six of the thirteen events including the bench press, squat, agility relay, and 100 yard relay. They defeated the team captained by senior pitcher Harrison Reeves by one point, the slimmest margin in the history of the Trojan Challenge.

Baseball Alumni Reunion
The first annual Charles Henderson Baseball Alumni Reunion will be held September 24 at 6:00 prior to the CHHS football game versus Greenville at 7:00. The specific location will be determined later this week but it will either be on the campus of Troy University or CHHS. All former Trojan baseball players, their spouses, and children are invited back for dinner and fellowship with former and current CHHS players. There will be no charge for the evening and there will be hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and dessert for everyone attending. If you will be able to attend please e-mail ironsd@troyschool.net indicating how many people will attend with you. You may also call 334-566-3510 to reserve your place. It is very important that we know who will be attending so we can prepare enough food for everyone.

2010 Season Concludes with Banquet
The Trojans brought the 2010 baseball season to an official close with the annual post-season banquet. Each player from the Freshman, JV, and Varsity teams were acknowledged and some individual awards were given out. The JV players voted Luke Tate as the most improved player and Michael Thomas as the teammate of the year. On the varsity it was Blake Hutchinson selected by his teammates as the most improved and Jawara White chosen as the teammate of the year. Team captains, also voted on by the players, were Chance Shaver and Mitch McLeod. Shaver also took home two statistical awards, one for the most hit-by-pitches and the other as the most productive hitter of 2010 due to having the highest quality-at-bat percentage of anyone on the varsity team.
Each member of the senior class also received a gift from the program in appreciation for all of their work for CHHS. The 2010 seniors were K.D. The Trojans finished the regular season 27-8 and ranked #1 in the state by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. In addition to the first #1 ranking in school history, the team also won the Terry Sikes Memorial Tournament and the Area 3 championship.

Trojans Honored at Senior Awards Day
Three Trojan baseball seniors were recognized at Senior Awards Day for their academic achievements during their time at Charles Henderson. Nathan Barron and Chance Shaver were acknowledged as members of the National Honor Society. Barron, Shaver, and K.D. Edenfield were each recognized as maintaining an A average during all four years of their high school career. In addition, all seven baseball seniors received a gift from the CHHS Booster Club in recognition of their contributions to Trojan athletics.

Reeves and Thomas Honored at Undergraduate Awards Day
Junior Harrison Reeves and Sophomore Michael Thomas were among the CHHS students honored at the Undergraduate Awards Day in Wagoner Hall Wednesday. The event acknowledges the academic efforts of CHHS' undergraduate students. Thomas was given an A and E Award from the science department. He was an infielder on the JV team in 2010 and finished the season with the varsity. Harrison Reeves was honored for having all A's for the entire year. Reeves was a pitcher and first baseman for the Trojans this season and finished with an unblemished 9-0 record with three saves on the mound.

Trojans' Season Concludes in Semi-Finals
The Charles Henderson Trojans fell short in their best of three 5A semi-final series at Spanish Fort. CHHS earned a split on Friday night, dropping the first decision 6-5 before winning the nightcap 9-5, but was defeated 10-1 on Saturday.
In game one Mitch McLeod took just his third loss of the season despite striking out seven Toro hitters in only five innings of work. McLeod's RBI single in the fourth inning that scored Chance Shaver was the only Trojan run until the sixth inning. In the sixth, K.D. Edenfield led off with a double and two batters later Nathan Barron walked and was followed by a McLeod single. After a pop-up, Chase Connell delivered a two out grand slam to left-center field that brought the Trojans within one run. CHHS left runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh and the game ended with a 6-5 score.
In game two Friday night the Trojans came out hot in the first inning. Edenfield drew a leadoff walk and scored on a triple by Nathan Barron. McLeod was the next hitter and was hit by a pitch, then Quay Lawson followed with a three run blast to centerfield. Connell followed Lawson with back-to-back homeruns, which was Connell's second of the day and third of the playoffs. Five of the first six CHHS batters scored. The Trojans would not strike again until the fourth when Barron doubled in Shaver. With a 6-5 lead going in to the sixth inning, Charles Henderson added three insurance runs. Michael Fox singled and stole second base. Shaver was hit by a pitch and McLeod drove them both in with a double. Quay Lawson drove in McLeod with a single and would steal second before being stranded there. Lawson finished 3-4 with four RBI and Barron was 2-4 with two RBI.

CHHS Advances to 5A Semi-Finals with Sweep of Beauregard
For the third consecutive week the Trojans of Charles Henderson earned a playoff sweep, this time on the road over #10 ranked Beauregard. The 15-10 and 11-9 victories will send CHHS to the semi-finals against Spanish Fort.
In game one the Trojans outslugged the Hornets for the 15-10 victory. CHHS struck quickly with five runs in the first inning. Chance Shaver hit a one out single and Nathan Barron followed by reaching on an error. Mitch McLeod drew a walk and Quay Lawson followed with a ground ball that the third baseman threw errantly allowing all three runners to score. Chase Connell then drove in Lawson with a ground out to shortstop which led to Jalin Lawson's two out solo home run. CHHS did not score in the second or third innings, but put four runs on the board in the third. Jalin Lawson led off with a single. Dalton Harris and Michael Fox each followed with bunt singles. K.D. Edenfield reached on a fielders choice and Lawson was retired at the plate, but Shaver followed with a bases loaded walk and Barron drove in Fox and Edenfield with a double. Shaver would later score from third on a wild pitch. Harris and Fox again set the table in the fifth with back-to-back hit by pitches which let to another bases loaded walk by Shaver. In the sixth Jalin Lawson and Harris each had RBIs, Lawson's was a double and Harris' a single. The Trojans extended their 12-10 lead in the top of the seventh by scoring three runs. McLeod and Connell each drove in runs in the inning.

In all the inning featured six hits and three walks by the CHHS hitters.

CHHS Advances to Quarterfinals with Sweep of Rehobeth

2nd Round Top-Ten Showdown to be Aired Live on WTBF
The second round clash between the #1 ranked Charles Henderson Trojans and the #7 ranked Rehobeth Rebels will be aired live on WTBF in Troy. The series will take place at Frazier Field on the campus of CHHS. Game 1 is scheduled to air on 970 AM with air time scheduled for 4:15 and first pitch at 4:30. Game 3, if necessary, will also be live on 94.7 FM with an air time of 2:45 and first pitch at 3:00. Both games will stream live at www.wtbf.com.

Trojans Sweep Monroe County in First Round
The Charles Henderson Trojans earned a first round sweep Friday night at Hogan's Hole, defeating Monroe County 4-1 and 8-4.
In the opener Mitch McLeod worked all seven innings on the mound, striking out eight. He faced 22 batters, only one over the minimum. The only inning that was not a 1-2-3 inning was the fourth, when the Tigers used a leadoff single followed by a double to drive a run across.
Chance Shaver started the CHHS scoring in the top of the 1st inning. His blast to left-center field was his first career home run and gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead. The Trojans would not score again until the sixth inning when Nathan Barron led off the inning with a solo homerun. Later in the inning Quay Lawson singled, stole second, and was driven in by Jalin Lawson. Jalin was later driven in by Michael Fox to give the Trojans the 4-1 margin. Shaver finished 2-3, and Jalin Lawson was 3-3.
Game 2 starter Nathan Barron worked three innings and allowed two hits. Harrison Reeves entered in the fourth and worked four innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. He allowed only two hits and threw only eight pitches in his final two innings.
For the second consecutive game, CHHS' first run came off a solo homerun in the first inning. Barron drove a pitch over the wall in left-center field, his second homerun of the day. Jalin Lawson followed in the second inning with a solo homerun of his own. Mitch McLeod finished the game 3-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Jalin Lawson was 3-4 with an RBI, stolen base, and two runs. K.D. Edenfield was 2-3. Reeves capped off the Trojan scoring with a two run homerun in the seventh inning, which was CHHS' fifth homerun of the day.
Charles Henderson will now host a second round series against the winner of the Rehobeth/Greenville series.

Trojans Remain #1 in Final ASWA Rankings
The Charles Henderson Trojans remained the #1 team in 5A in the state of Alabama according to the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll released Thursday. This marks the second straight week CHHS has claimed the top spot. The Trojans are followed by Southside-Gadsden, Cullman, St. Paul's, and Spanish Fort. Tallassee comes in at #6, Area 3 opponent Rehobeth checks in at #7, and Briarwood Christian is #8. Boaz at #9 and Beauregard at #10 round out the top ten.
1st Round Playoff Match-Up to Air Live on Radio
The first round playoff match-up between the Charles Henderson Trojans and the Monroe County Tigers will air live on WTBF. Game 1 is scheduled to air on 970 AM, with air time set for 4:15 and first pitch at 4:30. Currently Game 2 is not scheduled to air, but the if necessary game on Saturday would air on 94.7 FM. Both games will also be streaming live at www.wtbf.com.

Trojans Split with Stanhope-Elmore on Senior Night
The #1 ranked Trojans of Charles Henderson earned a split in their final preparation for the playoffs Tuesday night with a 7-2 victory followed by a 15-2 defeat.
In game one the Trojans were powered by Mitch McLeod, Chase Connell, and Jalin Lawson who each hit solo home runs. McLeod finished with three RBIs and Nathan Barron added two hits.
McLeod, Barron, Harrison Reeves, and Blake Hutchinson combined their efforts on the mound in the victory. McLeod started the game and was credited with the win after two innings of work. Barron worked the third and fourth, Reeves the fifth and sixth, and Hutchinson worked a scoreless seventh to close out the game.
In game two Barron homered and Jalin Lawson finished 2-2. Seniors Joel Agnew and Jawara White saw action in the nightcap.
Between games CHHS honored it's seven Seniors: Joel Agnew, Nathan Barron, K.D. Edenfield, Quay Lawson, Mitch McLeod, Chance Shaver, and Jawara White. These Seniors have won a total of 124 games in their four years at CHHS. They have won the 5A, Area 3 championship all four seasons and won the Enterprise Tournament in 2008 as well as the Terry Sikes Memorial Tournament in 2009 and 2010. They have been ranked as high as #2 in the state in the previous three seasons and achieved the #1 ranking in 5A for the first time in school history this season.
Next up for the Trojans is a first round playoff matchup against Monroe County at CHHS. The teams will square off in a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 Friday, with a game three scheduled for 1:00 Saturday if necessary.
